Cyprus announces €500 million tender for LNG terminal

Nicosia announced plans for the construction of an LNG terminal

Energy Minister Lakkotrypis announced on Friday that the government decided to proceed with the development of a facility for the import, storage and regasification of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at a location in Vasilikos Bay near Limassol.

Following the completion of a feasibility study in 2016, Nicosia announced plans for the construction of an LNG terminal. The tender foresees the completion of an LNG import terminal by 30 November 2020.

According to the tender guidelines contractors are called to design, construct and operate the terminal that has a budget of 500 million Euro.

Details include procurement of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) of at least 125,000m3 storage capacity, to unload LNG from LNG carriers ranging in size from 120,000m3 to 217,000m3 (Q-Flex).

The project requires the construction of offshore infrastructure for the permanent berthing of the facility and onshore natural gas infrastructure and related components for gas delivery to the Vasilikos power station and potentially other gas consumers.
