Electricity theft on the rise

Electrocution is a main concern for AEK

Source: CNA

The Cyprus Electricity Authority's electricity distribution substations have seen an increase in theft cases recently, according to a statement from the police.

The Distribution Substations, which primarily meet the electrical load requirements of the surrounding areas where they are located, are the target of the thefts because of their doors and entrances.

It should be noted that, in addition to the crimes committed, there is a serious risk to the lives of those involved, because illegal entry into Distribution Substations is extremely dangerous for unauthorized and improperly trained individuals, as there is an immediate risk of electrocution.

The public is urged to notify the police immediately if they notice any suspicious movement near or around the Electricity Distribution Substations by calling the local police station or the Citizen's Contact Line at 1460 and providing any information.
