Arrest made in major weapons and drugs seizure

Police discover firearms and illegal property holdings

More than 340 firearm cartridges, a large sum of money, and a quantity of cocaine were found in the residence of a 49-year-old, who was arrested and placed under custody for police investigations.

During an investigation conducted yesterday afternoon at the residence of the 49-year-old in the province of Limassol, in the presence of the suspect, members of the Limassol Drug Law Enforcement Unit discovered four packages containing a total of 349 firearm cartridges, measuring 9 and 7.62 millimeters. They also found a sum of money amounting to 11,900 euros, the origin of which is being investigated, and a quantity of cocaine weighing approximately 6.3 grams.

With the discovery of the cartridges, money, and narcotics, the 49-year-old, who was already under custody after being arrested the previous day for the offenses of possessing explosive materials and illegal possession of the property, was re-arrested by the Limassol Drug Law Enforcement Unit for the offenses of illegal possession combustibles materials, illegal possession of the property, and drug possession.

The investigations are ongoing by the Limassol Drug Law Enforcement Unit and the Platres Police Station.

Initially, the 49-year-old was arrested last Monday, July 3, shortly before 2:00 a.m., by members of the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department, who intercepted the vehicle he was driving on the road in the Agia Fylaxeos area, following information about the theft of materials from a construction site located on the same street. A quantity of construction iron and two hand shears were found in the suspect's vehicle, leading to the arrest of himself and a 32-year-old who was riding in the vehicle as a passenger, for the offenses of illegal possession of property of burglary tools.

The 32-year-old was also arrested for drug possession, as during the search, a quantity of cannabis weighing approximately 5.8 grams, a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine weighing approximately 0.3 grams, and a white substance believed to be cocaine weighing approximately 5.3 grams were found in his possession.

The investigations are ongoing by the Limassol Drug Law Enforcement Unit and the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department, with both suspects placed under a three-day detention under an order issued by the Limassol District Court on Monday.
