Briton dies in Paphos hit-and-run

Abandoned car matching the description spotted at a nearby harbour

A 35-year-old British tourist was killed in an accident in Peyia in the early morning hours Sunday, when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

According to reports, a vehicle was driving on the Peyia-Ayios Georgios road near Coral Bay, when he struck two pedestrians around 3am.

The 35-year-old was fatally wounded and died at the scene while the other was taken to the Emergency Room with serious injuries.

The driver failed to stop and immediately drove away according to media reports.

But at daybreak, a vehicle was spotted at the Ayios Georgios harbor, with reports saying it was abandoned and matched the description of the car that struck the two pedestrians.

Paphos police are investigating.
