A 42-year-old man from Bulgaria died in hospital on Thursday, five days after he was struck by a vehicle in Limassol as he was trying to cross the road in the evening.

Authorities have released the name of the victim, saying Bulgarian national Μitkov Ognyan succumbed to his injuries while being treated for multiple injuries at Limassol General Hospital.

On the evening of August 25, just before 9pm, Ognyan attempted to cross Pafou Street in an area near downtown Limassol, when an oncoming vehicle struck him. The pedestrian suffered head trauma and internal bleeding as well as multiple bone fractures and cuts around the body.

The car was driven by a 54-year-old woman, who was arrested later on a police warrant and detained during the course of the investigation. Her car also struck another vehicle at a red light, driven by a 25-year-old male who was reportedly not injured.

Doctors who were treating Ognyan in the Intensive Care Unit had described his condition as extremely serious.
