A 23-year-old soldier from the Cyprus National Guard Emergency Unit (ELDYK) is currently in intensive care at a private hospital after a training accident resulted in the amputation of his right arm and injuries to his eye and face, as per reports.

The incident occurred during a planned training activity at the firing range in Agios Modestos, prompting immediate medical attention for the young soldier. Following the mishap, the soldier underwent surgeries addressing injuries to both the palm of his hand and his eye. Health authorities have described his condition as stable, reassuring that he is currently out of immediate danger.

The soldier's injuries were sustained during an exercise where, under circumstances under investigation by the Ministry of Defence, a grenade exploded in his hand. The Ministry is actively probing the incident to determine the factors leading to this unfortunate outcome.
