Hello, heatwave: 37°C and climbing. Summer’s here, ready or not

Time to break out the summer wardrobe.

Newsroom

If you’re reading this with a glass of cold water in one hand and your toes peeking out of flip-flops for the first time this year, you're not alone. The heat has officially arrived, and it’s not pulling any punches.

Today, we’re sweating it out under mostly clear skies. Winds will start off light, coming from the southwest to northwest, picking up to a modest breeze (that’s 3 to 4 on the Beaufort scale for the sea-savvy). The sea? Just a gentle ripple...perfect if you’re daydreaming about a quick dip.

Temperature-wise, brace yourselves: it’s 37°C in the inland areas, 28°C on the western coast, around 31°C elsewhere by the sea, and a slightly more merciful 26°C if you’ve retreated to the high mountains. Either way, it’s officially "don't-touch-me-I’m-sweating" weather.

Tonight offers some relief, with clear skies sticking around. Winds will calm down and temperatures will dip to around 20°C in the cities and along the coast, and to a cooler 16°C up in the mountains. Not exactly sweater weather, but at least your sheets won’t feel like a sauna.

Looking ahead to Friday and Saturday? More of the same: sun, heat, and clear skies. Sunday might bring a few clouds around midday, especially in the mountains, and maybe even a brief shower. Just enough to make you look up and wonder, "Was that a raindrop?"

And yes, the heat will keep creeping up through Saturday, well above what’s considered normal for this time of year. Sunday holds steady. No major changes on the thermometer, but plenty of reason to keep those linen shirts and iced drinks at the ready.

Stay cool out there...
