The 2nd International Coastal Rowing Beach Sprints Competition is returning to Limassol, the Limassol Nautical Club (LNC) announced. The event is to be held at Malindi Beach in Parekklisia, in Limassol, between April 19 and 21.

“Rowers from all over the world will come together for this thrilling event, for three days of intense competition”, the LNC said in an announcement.

According to the organizers, so far, they have participation from 10 countries, including “a strong and very welcome representation from Japan”, while Olympic and World Champions have already registered for participation in the event.

“We are thrilled to be hosting the 2nd International Coastal Rowing Beach Sprints Competition”, said Andreas Papadopoulos, President of Limassol Nautical Club. “We are certain that this year's tournament will be even greater after the success of the previous year's event, in which competitors from seven different countries participated”, he added. “The stakes are higher than ever with beach sprints now formally included in the Olympic program for 2028”, he noted, adding that they were “excited” to welcome rowers and spectators to what is expected to be “an incredible event”.

As regards the races, the LNC said that two or four athletes will be competing against each other starting with a 30-meter sprint on the beach until they reach their boat (single or double), following a series of slaloms in the water for 500 meters, and finally exit their boats for a sprint run for another 30 meters to the finish line.

The races are scheduled between 9.00 and 17.00, “providing spectators with plenty of chances to experience the thrill and exhilaration of the best coastal rowing”.

Registrations will be open until April 14.
