According to a complaint filed with police, a 56-year-old male, described as a Greek Cypriot man, was involved in a balcony fall where his wife, described as a 32-year-old Polish woman, was injured Sunday morning.

The incident took place around 6am with reports saying the couple had a heated exchange. At one point, according to the woman, her husband pushed her off their balcony on the second floor.

The woman suffered two fractures of lumbar vertebrae, including a devastating injury of the third bone as well as a fracture of the first bone. She was rushed to the Emergency Room at Nicosia General Hospital where doctors said she would have to undergo surgery.

Her husband, who was later arrested by police, denied involvement in his wife’s balcony fall. He was also later admitted to hospital in the cardiology department, where he was being treated while under arrest.

It was not clear whether authorities were looking into a domestic dispute, with media reports Sunday saying police were investigating an attempted murder case.
