A 64-year-old Russian tourist is in very critical condition following an accident in Limassol where he was struck by an oncoming vehicle near his hotel.

Police said a Russian man was attempting to cross the road at a pedestrian crossing on a coastal road Tuesday morning, when at 6:35am a jeep being driven by a 51-year-old male struck him and knocked him down.

According to Kathimerini Cyprus, tests on site suggested that the man did not press the button that would activate the lights at the crossing. The reports also said the man was struck by the oncoming vehicle, fell on the hood of the jeep and then fell to the asphalt.

The tourist was rushed to the Emergency Room at Limassol General Hospital, where he remained under a close watch due to his “very critical condition.”

The driver, described as a Greek national, was administered a Breathalyzer test which showed no alcohol in his bloodstream. He was detained by an arrest warrant while police are investigating the incident.
