Friday's forecast: The weekend starts with a wet welcome and a case of coastal FOMO!

Rain showers make a quick stop at the coasts before throwing a secret party south of Troodos.

Newsroom

Happy Friday! (says the sky, maybe)

Yes, you made it! It's Friday, and a weak low-pressure system and unstable weather conditions are here until tomorrow... because apparently, even the weather needs one last Friday hurrah before settling down.

Today:  We start off mostly clear with a bit of locally increased cloud cover. The clouds are shy today. They might produce isolated showers on the western and northern coasts in the morning, a quick splash-and-dash. Towards the afternoon, the clouds develop a sense of purpose and move to a more dramatic location. Expect local showers and isolated thunderstorms in areas south of Troodos and along the southern coast. If you're there, grab the popcorn (and the umbrella!). Hail may fall during a thunderstorm. The sky is literally celebrating the end of the week with frozen confetti. Winds start light (3 Beaufort) and undecided, then settle on a southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate direction (3 to 4 Beaufort). The sea will be up to slightly rough. It's just moderately annoyed, which is an improvement!

As far as temperatures go, we're still clinging to the warmth.

  • Around 23°C inland and on the western/northern coasts.
  • A pleasant 25°C on the remaining coasts.
  • A chilly 14°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, the party moves to the eastern and northern coasts. The weather will be partly cloudy, with isolated showers or a brief thunderstorm expected in those coastal areas, as well as inland. Winds get a bit stronger tonight, particularly on the northeastern coasts, where they go from moderate to a rather strong 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough, and rough on the windward coasts. If you're a boat, you might want to call in sick.

Weekend forecast: The great temperature swing
Saturday (tomorrow), we'll get a break! Periods of mostly clear weather will alternate with cloudiness, though one last isolated shower is possible in the afternoon in the southern areas of Troodos.

Sunday & Monday: Repeat performance! Periods of mostly clear weather will alternate with cloudiness. The kind of weather that lets you finally plan your day without a cloud of doubt. Temperatures will drop on Saturday, mainly inland and in the mountains, to fluctuate around or slightly below the average climatic values for the season.

For context, November averages are around 22°C max during the day on the coast, so get ready for a small seasonal reality check.

By Monday, the weather will have a change of heart! A noticeable increase is expected, with temperatures rising above the average climatic values.

Translation: Dress warm on Saturday, because by Monday, we’re back to pretending it's a permanent early-Autumn climate. Enjoy the crazy weather weekend!
