The community of Xylophagos is gearing up for an ambitious endeavor as they strive to break the Guinness World Record for the largest potato pancake ever cooked. This culinary feat will take center stage during the first day of the two-day Xylophagos International Big Potato Festival, scheduled for Thursday, September 7, 2023.
Under the watchful eye of Guinness World Records officials visiting Cyprus for the occasion, a dedicated team of volunteers, organized by the Xylophagos Community Council, will endeavor to create this colossal delicacy. The project is set to utilize a staggering eight massive frying pans, copious amounts of oil, and over a ton of potatoes.
The event promises to be a spectacle, with thousands of visitors expected to witness the record-breaking attempt. Attendees will even have the opportunity to savor this beloved potato treat, free of charge.
George Tasou, the President of the Community Council, extends an invitation to the world to join in the festivities during the two-day International Big Potato Festival on Thursday and Friday, September 7 and 8, 2023, in Xylophagos. The festival's opening ceremony will be graced by the presence of Mr. Petros Xenophontos, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment.
The festival aims to offer fun, laughter, and delectable food and beverages. It will host prominent figures from the artistic circles of Cyprus and Greece, along with international music and dance groups. Notably, Elli Kokkinou is set to perform on Friday, promising to elevate the atmosphere with her chart-topping songs. The festivities will also feature satire and abundant laughter, courtesy of the special guest of the evening, Michalis Sofokleous - La Casa De Mikel.
On Thursday, entertainment will be provided by Evros Antoniou and Nikos Vezyrakis, ensuring unique moments for all attendees. Vaso Nikoli will infuse the festival with the rich tradition of island and Cypriot songs.
