An autopsy showed that a Nicosia runner, who was vacationing with his family in Paphos, died from acute myocardial infarction Thursday morning.

The man, who was originally from Paphos, was vacationing with his wife and their two young children, when he set out to go for a morning run along the western coastline towards Ayios Georgios in Peyia.

At one point, the runner suffered a cardiac event and he was spotted by a tourist couple on their walk near Coral Bay, roughly about half way through his route.

He was transported by an ambulance to the Emergency Room at Paphos General Hospital, where a doctor on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.

An autopsy conducted by state forensic pathologist Eleni Antoniou showed acute myocardial infarction, commonly heart attack, as the cause of death.

Local reports said the man was an avid runner who went jogging every day.
