Egyptian woman who is seven months pregnant remains under mental health watch

Police have located the 7-month pregnant woman who walked away from Makarios Children’s Hospital while she was under a mental health watch.

According to Kathimerini Cyprus, officers received information that the expectant mother was located in a hotel in Yermasoyia, Limassol district, and she was reportedly unharmed.

Police told Knews that the woman, an Egyptian national, has been taken back to Athalassa Psychiatric Hospital in Nicosia under a court order for mandatory mental health treatment.

The woman had been ordered to check in last Friday and then she was transported to Makarios hospital due to having contractions

But during a moment when a nurse was not watching the pregnant patient, around 10:30pm Monday night, the woman managed to walk away and later disappeared from the hospital.

Police said the woman was in immediate danger both for herself and her unborn child, as she could go into preterm labour.

It was not clear under what circumstances she was ordered to remain in Athalassa but police told Knews the woman is under mental health watch by a court order, but she is not being detained.
