Fire breaks out in Nicosia flat

Cause of fire still unknown in apartment building across from Presidential Palace

Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire that broke out Wednesday morning in a flat right across from the Presidential Palace.

The emergency dispatcher got a call that an apartment fire had broken out around 7:08am in Nicosia, on the fifth floor of a residential building on Ayion Omologiton avenue.

Three fire trucks rushed to the location, which was right from the Presidential Palace, with fire fighters using carbon dioxide fire extinguishers and managing to put out the fire at 7:44am.

No evacuation was ordered for the residents in the building, while ambulance medics gave first aid to the tenant whose bedroom caught fire.

Police officers and fire department officials were jointly investigating the causes of the fire.
