A senior citizen died in hospital on Tuesday evening following a serious accident last week when he was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross the road in Paphos.

According to police, the man was attempting to cross the street late Wednesday night on October 24, on Danaes avenue in Kato Paphos, when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle driven by a 32-year-old Greek national.

The 61-year-old foreign national was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit at Paphos General Hospital where doctors performed surgery and kept monitoring his condition closely.

The driver, who was described as a Paphos resident, was arrested while a Breathalyzer test showed zero alcohol in his bloodstream.

Initial reports had identified the victim as a tourist but authorities later said he had settled in Paphos some years ago.
