The Cyprus Institute of Directors & Corporate Governance (CyIoDCG) is organising an event on leadership and sound corporate governance on Friday, 16 October, at 17:00, at the PwC Experience Center in Nicosia.
The keynote speaker will be distinguished Cyprus-born professor Max Nikias, president Emeritus & professor, Malcolm R. Currie Chair in Technology and the Humanities, and Life Trustee of the University of Southern California.
In his address, entitled “Guardians of the Enterprise: The Duties, Disciplines, and Judgment of the Effective Director”, he will focus on the role of board members and the principles that underpin the effective discharge of their duties.
Drawing on Plato’s ancient question, “Who guards the guardians?”, the address will explore what it truly means to serve as a board member, the principles underpinning sound governance, responsibilities towards the organisation and its stakeholders, as well as the judgment required to make decisions in times of both prosperity and crisis.
The presentation will connect timeless principles with lessons from the modern operation of boards, focusing on the character, discipline and accountability that define the effective discharge of a director’s duties. As stated in the presentation’s theme, “wisdom is not bestowed, but chosen.”
