EY: Modernization of the Government's web presence – The redesign of the Government websites

  • Modern image and updated information
  • Holistic improvement of the user experience
  • Access through the ''gov.cy'' portal

EY Cyprus has signed the contract for the modernization of the web presence of the Republic of Cyprus, through the redesign of the Government’s websites, which will now be accessible through a new digital portal, the gov.cy. The project aims to establish a modern and cohesive brand identity for all Government departments, and more importantly, to improve citizens’ experience when browsing through Government websites. The project was awarded, after a public tender process, by the Department of Information Services of the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, to EY Cyprus. The project cost is approximately €1.1 million, while its implementation will be completed in two (2) phases, with the first 65 websites to be developed within 2023.

Specifically, the project envisions the design or redesign of more than 250 websites in total, with a modern and user-friendly aesthetic, based on the highest standards of user experience, usability, accessibility and security. At the same time, special emphasis will be placed on the organization, development and continuous updating of the websites content, so as to ensure quick and easy access for citizens and other interested parties to reliable information. To this end, relevant officials from all government agencies will be trained to create and edit simple, understandable, comprehensive, releavnt and up-to-date content.

In a statement, the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Kyriakos Kokkinos, noted: ''This is one of the most important digital transformation projects of the Deputy Ministry, and of key importance for the modernization of the Government, with a direct impact on the citizens. Our goal is for gov.cy to be the one and only point of contact with the Government as well as a source of reliable information and direct service to the citizens, with content and functions that will be constantly enriched and upgraded. Government websites are a point of reference for the Republic of Cyprus, acting as our internal and external country image. Through our cooperation with EY, as well as all the parties involved, I am confident that we will radically upgrade this image, strengthening and giving credibility to our Government.''

Commenting on the award of the project, George Tziortzis, Head of Consulting Services at EY Cyprus, stated: ''We are excited to undertake this extremely important and complex project. The redesign of the web presence of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus will highlight its modern and cohesive identity and will facilitate citizens and businesses in their daily information and contact with the government. This project promises to improve the lives of all of us and contribute to building new relations of cooperation and trust between the Government and the society. We would like to thank the Government of Cyprus for the trust in EY Cyprus and its people, which is confirmed by the assignment of this project.''
