A documentary examining six decades of Cyprus’s division will premiere Sept. 22 at the Ledra Palace Hotel in Nicosia’s U.N.-controlled buffer zone. The United Nations is hosting the screening.

Cyprus: The Divided Island features testimony from more than 30 people, including community leaders and senior U.N. officials, exploring the political, cultural and personal impact of the conflict.

President Nikos Christodoulides agreed to give a joint interview for the film, but Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar declined without explanation, organizers said.

About 200 guests are expected, including ambassadors, EU and U.N. representatives and local politicians. Christodoulides may attend depending on his schedule at the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

Cyprus has been split since 1974, when Turkey occupied the island’s north after a coup by supporters of union with Greece. Decades of U.N.-led peace talks, most recently in 2017 at Crans-Montana, Switzerland, have ended without a settlement.
