Senior Amazon executives arrived in Cyprus on Tuesday as part of follow-up talks stemming from a recent government delegation visit to Silicon Valley, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nikodimos Damianou announced Wednesday.

Speaking after a Cabinet meeting, Damianou said the discussions with Amazon focus on establishing a presence in Cyprus, potentially through a specialized research and development center, and fostering partnerships that boost digital skills in key areas such as artificial intelligence, wildfire prevention, and traffic management.

“These companies are in a continuous cycle of growth and innovation and can provide us with valuable expertise,” Damianou said.

Cyprus is also considering infrastructure development such as data centers under its “Cloud First” policy, which includes the selection of a strategic partner for the national government cloud, or "g-cloud."

Damianou added that representatives from U.S.-based firms Plug and Play and Tenstorrent are expected to visit Cyprus in early May to explore potential local operations and engage with the island’s tech ecosystem.

In the coming weeks, the government will also hold follow-up meetings with Microsoft, OpenAI, Oracle, Google and others, marking what Damianou called a “tangible” result of the President’s U.S. visit and a sign of growing international interest in Cyprus as a digital hub.

“As a government we are ready to make the most of this momentum,” he said.
