Anastasiades: Reduction of tender offers 'not due to lack of trust'

Projects are being pushed forward despite various delays, says Anastasiades

The growth rate of public investments has accelerated, said Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades on Friday, after receiving the annual report of the Tenders Review Authority from its Chairwoman, Efi Papadopoulou.

"Our concern is to ensure legality in public contracts," Papadopoulou assured Anastasiades. Furthermore, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue their work and expressed hope that they did not disappoint him.

"We had the pandemic, and we hope that was the cause of this reduction, not that people don't trust us"

She also stated that the number of recourses filed was higher in previous years, but has now decreased. "We had the pandemic, and we hope that was the cause of this reduction, not that people don't trust us," she explained.

Anastasiades stated that he does not believe the reduction in the number of recourses is due to a lack of trust. "They may realize that their tenders do not meet or fulfill the preconditions in the tender call," he added.

He thanked and congratulated Papadopoulou for her efforts, adding that "Recently, there has been an acceleration to move projects forward because there have been various delays in some projects, at least in the past, which have obstructed the desired growth rate in public investment. However, there has been a recent acceleration, which is significant."
