James Bond may have a license to kill, but Jeff Bezos apparently has a license to cast.
According to Hollywood chatter, the Amazon founder is lobbying hard for his new wife, Lauren Sánchez, to land a starring role in the upcoming Bond reboot. The couple tied the knot in a splashy Venetian ceremony in June, and Bezos now seems eager to give their love story a cinematic twist.
There’s just one small hitch: Sánchez isn’t actually an actress. But when you’ve shelled out $8 billion to buy MGM Studios, home of 007, “previous acting experience” might not be the deal-breaker it is for the rest of us.
“She’s Jeff’s muse,” one insider quipped. “And when you own the studio, you don’t just get final cut; you get to pick the cast.”
Whether Sánchez shows up as a cameo, a full-fledged Bond girl, or just herself is anyone’s guess. But with Denis Villeneuve directing and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the script, the film is already shaping up to be a blockbuster… with or without Bezos’ personal touch.
The yet-untitled Bond 26 will reboot the franchise after Daniel Craig’s No Time to Die. A parade of Hollywood’s leading men, from Jacob Elordi to Regé-Jean Page, are rumored for the coveted tuxedo. And while Bezos has even crowdsourced ideas for the next 007 on social media, it’s clear there’s at least one casting decision he’d like to make himself.
Bond 26 is slated for 2028. Plenty of time, apparently, for Bezos to make sure his better half is front and center, martini in hand.
