The Paphos Criminal Court today sentenced a 23-year-old man to four years in prison for the sexual abuse of a minor, according to a statement from the Paphos District Court Registry.

The court heard that the defendant was involved in an incident in which he touched his genitals on the body of the minor, over her clothing. The abuse occurred in Paphos in an undisclosed location.

The defendant, whose identity has not been released due to the nature of the case, admitted to the charges during the court proceedings. His admission led to the imposition of the four-year sentence, which the court emphasized was in line with sentencing guidelines for such offenses.

The victim, whose age has not been publicly disclosed, was described as being under the legal age of consent in Cyprus at the time of the incident. The abuse was reported to authorities shortly after the incident occurred.

This case follows a growing number of incidents concerning sexual abuse, sparking ongoing discussions on measures to protect minors from exploitation. Authorities continue to encourage the public to report any suspected abuse to ensure swift justice and support for victims.

The defendant’s legal representation did not provide a comment following the sentencing.
