Police in Limassol arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with the theft of construction materials from a residence under renovation in Kato Polemidia.

Authorities said the case began on Aug. 19, when the owner of a contracting company reported that between Aug. 11 and Aug. 18, 52 boxes of tiles and 40 packages of adhesive, worth about €2,500, had been stolen from the site.

On Aug. 21, the same complainant told police that another 30 packages of adhesive, valued at €350, had been stolen between Aug. 20 and Aug. 21.

Investigators said one of the adhesive packages contained a geolocation device, which signaled its location in Limassol on Aug. 21. Officers from the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department and the Polemidia Police Station went to the site and determined the property belonged to the suspect.

With the man’s written consent, officers searched the premises and found 109 tiles and 37 packages of adhesive of various brands. Police said the tracking device was inside one of the packages.

The man was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods after the complainant identified eight adhesive packages as belonging to him. He also faces charges of unlawful possession of property for the other materials he could not explain.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
