Firefighting efforts are intensifying as crews battle a blaze in wild vegetation and dry grass in the community of Galataria, Paphos District.

The Fire Service has deployed additional resources to the scene, including four staffed fire trucks, increasing the total number of bulldozers to five and aerial units to eight, according to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis.

Strong winds are complicating efforts, Kettis said.

An advanced control center is being sent to the site. The Paphos District Fire Officer is coordinating operations on the ground, while the Chief Fire Officer oversees coordination from Fire Service headquarters.

Initially, six staffed fire trucks from Paphos city and district, along with five fire trucks and three bulldozers from the Forestry Department, were engaged in fighting the fire.

Meanwhile, two firefighting aircraft, already on patrol, made drops on the fire. A total of four aerial units are returning to conduct additional water drops.
