The Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus has filed an appeal challenging a decision by the Limassol District Court dated November 8, 2023. The court ruled that the Republic of Cyprus and the Central Bank of Cyprus bear responsibility for losses incurred by a depositor due to the deposit "haircut" at Laiki Bank in 2013 under the "Resolution of Credit and Other Institutions Law of 2013."
The appeal contests the entirety of the Limassol District Court's decision, specifically challenging the court's findings on the liability of Cypriot authorities. The Republic of Cyprus disputes the court's conclusion that it must compensate the depositor for the losses incurred during the Laiki Bank resolution.
