The Cyprus Health Ministry announced one new coronavirus case on Monday, involving a person who was checked in the framework of the sampling program targeting airport arrivals and repatriated persons.
Monday’s new case emerged after a pool of 557 samples taken from airport arrivals were checked for the virus.
The new case, a Cyprus citizen, had flown to the island from the US via Germany on July 4. He was tested upon arrival, and instructed to remain in self-isolation the same day.
The Health Ministry stressed that health protocols were activated for the positive case, while contact tracing efforts were launched.
Labs islandwide processed a total of 1,259 samples to check for coronavirus on Monday, with samples mainly collected in the framework of government-ordered rounds of tests, while 203 people took the initiative to get checked for the virus.
The single new case brought total known coronavirus cases in the Republic of Cyprus to 1,004.
