A 47-year-old construction worker died Tuesday morning after falling from a building under construction in Limassol.

The accident happened around 8 a.m., when Gela Kaltsidis, a Georgian national, fell from the sixth floor of the site under circumstances that are still being investigated.

Kaltsidis was rushed to a private clinic with serious injuries but died shortly after.

Authorities are now looking into the cause of the fall, including whether safety rules were followed at the site. Cyprus’ Labour Inspection Department and police are leading the investigation.

This tragic accident comes amid growing concerns over workplace safety in Cyprus. So far this year, official reports show that there have been 15 serious work-related accidents across the country, including four fatal incidents. Last year, there were 22 serious accidents with six fatalities recorded.

Experts say that many accidents happen in construction, which remains one of the most dangerous industries on the island. Safety officials have urged employers to strengthen protective measures and improve worker training to prevent further loss of life.
