Charge your phones: Monday power cuts planned in Paphos

Maintenance work will leave several communities without electricity for up to six hours on Aug. 31.

Newsroom

Residents in several Paphos communities should charge their phones, plan their morning coffee and prepare for scheduled power cuts Monday.

The Electricity Authority of Cyprus said electricity will be temporarily switched off while crews carry out maintenance on the district’s medium-voltage overhead network.

The outages are planned as follows:

  • 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Goudi
  • 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Pano Akourdaleia, Kato Akourdaleia, Terra, Skoulli, Choli and the northwestern part of Kritou Terra
  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Giolos, Milios, Simos, Loukrounos, Kritou Terra, Pano Arodes, Kato Arodes, Inia, Drousia and Pittokopos

The EAC said electricity may return before the listed finishing times if the work is completed early.

However, residents should treat electrical installations as live throughout the outage. In plain language: even if the power is off, do not assume cables or equipment are safe to touch, as electricity could return without warning.

Households and businesses may also want to charge essential devices in advance and take precautions with computers and other sensitive equipment.

The authority apologized for the inconvenience but said the maintenance is necessary to keep the network operating safely.
