Greek Cypriot Christos Stylianides was sworn in today as minister of the new Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection in Greece.
The ceremony included the swearing in of Evangelos Tournas as deputy minister and was presided over by Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The newly appointed officials are now meeting with the prime minister at his office in the Maximos Mansion, before assuming their official duties.
The new Ministry replaces the general secretariat for civil protection, which was until now a branch of the Ministry for the Protection of Citizens.
Stylianides is a former European commissioner for humanitarian aid and crisis management, while Tournas is the former chief of the Hellenic Air Force staff.
