Customs officers at Larnaca Airport intercepted a passenger carrying a large quantity of cigarettes destined for the United Kingdom.
Authorities said a 48-year-old Turkish Cypriot woman was found with 65 boxes of 200 cigarettes each, a total of 13,000 cigarettes, in her luggage. The cigarettes appeared duty-free and lacked required health warnings in Greek and Turkish, as well as the official security features and traceability codes.
The woman was arrested for flagrant offenses, and her luggage and its contents were confiscated. She was later released after agreeing to an out-of-court settlement, according to the Customs Department.
The seizure highlights ongoing efforts to combat illegal tobacco trafficking and ensure compliance with health and customs regulations.
