Authorities in Cyprus have arrested a 31-year-old Limassol man after uncovering over a kilo of cannabis hidden inside cereal boxes in a shipment that arrived from abroad.

Police said Friday that the discovery was made during routine checks by the Anti-Narcotics Unit in coordination with Customs officers. The suspicious packages were flagged as part of ongoing random inspections.

Inside four seemingly ordinary cereal boxes, officers found nylon bags containing dry cannabis with a total weight of about 1.08 kilograms.

Following further investigation, evidence pointed to the Limassol resident, who was taken into custody to assist with the ongoing probe.

Police say the investigation is still underway.
