Cyprus is making its transition to a new digital television broadcasting system on Saturday, 10 October, with Hellas Sat taking over from Velister as the country upgrades its television transmission network.
The change introduces DVB-T2, a modern European broadcasting standard designed to improve viewing quality and make more efficient use of available frequencies. Viewers can expect support for high-definition (HD) and 4K content, alongside increased channel capacity.
The Department of Electronic Communications, which operates under the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, announced the transition on 24 August, outlining the technical improvements expected from the upgraded network.
The switchover is scheduled to be completed with the permanent shutdown of the old Velister platform, marking a significant change to the infrastructure used to deliver television signals across Cyprus.
Viewers who need help preparing for the change or want further information can visit www.hellas-sat.digital or contact the dedicated call centre on 22000737.
The transition is part of an effort to bring Cyprus's digital television network in line with modern European broadcasting technology, offering improved technical capabilities and greater scope for future services.
