The authorities of the Republic of Cyprus are on standby in case there is a need to evacuate Europeans or third-country nationals from the region, Deputy Government Spokesman Giannis Antoniou told CNA on Friday.
Asked by CNA, Antoniou said that the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus were standing by for the repatriation of Europeans and third-country nationals in case evacuations from the region were necessary, within the framework of the Republic’s Estia plan, for the reception and repatriation of foreign citizens from an area in crisis through the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.
Asked if there were requests from other states, Antoniou said that there were no requests but the Republic of Cyprus has been in contact with foreign diplomatic missions in case evacuations need to be carried out.
Historically, he said, Cyprus has very good relations with all its neighbors and wants to act as a bridge of peace and cooperation and be a pillar of security and stability in the region.
