The 80-year-old man found murdered in his Limassol home earlier this week died from internal bleeding caused by nine stab wounds, according to findings from a second autopsy carried out on Thursday.

Forensic pathologist Nikolas Charalambous confirmed that Giorgos Hadjigeorgiou was attacked while asleep in his chair with a knife and another sharp object, causing multiple internal injuries. The wounds were concentrated on the pensioner’s upper body.

Hadjigeorgiou’s body was discovered early Wednesday morning by his wife, who had been sleeping in another room of their ground-floor home. The couple’s 47-year-old son allegedly called police shortly after the attack, admitting that he had stabbed his father.

The suspect has since been committed to Athalassa Psychiatric Hospital after a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation found him unfit to appear in court.

Police investigations are ongoing.
