A 72-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Friday by the Permanent Criminal Court in Limassol, following his conviction for involvement in drug trafficking.

Authorities had tracked him down in Germany, where he was arrested in August 2024 under a European arrest warrant. He was extradited to Cyprus four months later to face charges linked to two separate cocaine seizures dating back to May 2022.

The first case involved the discovery of 2.5 kilograms of cocaine. A 58-year-old man was arrested at the time and later handed a 10-year prison term, while a 62-year-old woman received a three-year sentence for her role.

The second investigation concerned a shipment container that arrived at the Port of Limassol containing 6.5 kilograms of cocaine. Another 58-year-old man was convicted in that matter and is serving a 13-year sentence.

During the broader inquiries into these incidents, evidence emerged connecting the 72-year-old to the operations, leading to his arrest abroad and, ultimately, Friday’s sentencing.
