An 85-year-old man who had been reported missing was found dead late Tuesday after his car plunged into a ravine outside the village of Kato Pyrgos, police said.
The victim was identified as local resident Spyros Zampas. He was last seen leaving his home around 7 a.m. Tuesday, authorities said. When relatives were unable to reach him, a family member filed a missing person report that afternoon.
Shortly after 8 p.m., police located both Zampas and his car about 200 meters off a rural dirt road. He was taken to the Kato Pyrgos Health Center, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Investigators believe Zampas lost control of his vehicle, sending it into the ravine. The exact circumstances remain under investigation by the Morphou Traffic Department.
