The Police in Limassol are investigating a case of fraud and embezzlement involving false representations and money transfers. They have arrested a suspect in connection with the case.
Specifically, on Monday, July 31st, a 38-year-old man reported to the Limassol Police that on July 17th, he found an online advertisement for an apartment rental in Limassol. He called the telephone number listed in the ad and spoke to an unknown woman. They arranged to meet to inspect the apartment.
After meeting the woman and inspecting the apartment, the 38-year-old agreed to rent it. As a deposit, he gave her 3,080 euros, with an agreement to pay an additional 2,420 euros later. He also signed a contract with the woman, in which she recorded their details.
Upon further investigation, the man contacted the company that owns the building where the apartment is located and found out that the woman has no affiliation with the company.
The man arranged another meeting with the woman yesterday, Thursday afternoon, in a Limassol area. Members of the Limassol Police attended the meeting and conducted an identity check on the woman. The information she provided during the check differed from the details written in the rental contract she allegedly made with the 38-year-old.
As a result, a 34-year-old female suspect had a warrant for her arrest issued. She was apprehended and taken into custody for further investigation.
The Limassol Police will continue their examinations.
