Friday weather: Another day of relentless clarity

Yellow alert issued for inland areas as readings approach 40°C.

Newsroom

A seasonal low-pressure system is still settled over the region and shows little inclination to shift. Skies will stay mostly clear, with only a modest increase in cloud over the mountains during the afternoon. Winds begin variable but settle into a mainly southwesterly to northwesterly pattern, light to moderate at Force 3–4 and locally rising to Force 5 along the windward coasts later in the day. Temperatures climb to 40°C inland, around 34°C along most of the coastline, 31°C on the southwest and west coasts, and 30°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, clear conditions hold. Winds turn downslope and ease to Force 3. The sea will be calm to slight.

Saturday through Monday
The pattern continues: mostly clear skies interrupted only by temporary afternoon cloud over the mountains. Temperatures remain largely unchanged and stay above the seasonal average.

Yellow heat alert
Valid from 13:00 to 15:00 today. Inland areas are again expected to reach around 40°C. Vulnerable people (the elderly, the very young and anyone already under strain) should take care.
