The Cyprus Meteorological Department has issued a new yellow warning for isolated severe thunderstorms, which will be in effect from 23:00 tonight until 17:00 tomorrow afternoon. The phenomena will affect the region intermittently, starting with the northern, western, and southern coasts, and gradually spreading to the rest of the region. The intensity of the rain is expected to vary between 35 and 50 mm per hour, and hail is likely to fall.

The forecast in detail:

Tonight, the weather will be mainly cloudy, with isolated showers and thunderstorms on the coast, but progressing to localized showers and isolated thunderstorms later in the night, initially on the coast and then spreading across the island. Hail is also likely to fall during the storm. The higher peaks of the Troodos may experience snow or sleet. Winds will mainly blow from the southeast to southwest and be light to moderate, around 3 to 4 Beaufort, but locally variable. The sea will remain slightly rough to choppy. Temperatures are expected to drop to around 8 degrees inland, around 11 degrees on the coast, and around 3 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost may form locally.

Tomorrow, the weather will be mostly cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms, and hail may fall during the storm. The higher peaks of the Troodos may experience snow or sleet. Winds will initially blow from the southeast to southwest, light to moderate, around 3 to 4 Beaufort, but gradually shift to mainly southwest to northwest, of the same intensity. However, in a thunderstorm, winds may increase to very strong, around 5 to 6 Beaufort, with stronger gusts. The sea will be slightly choppy to choppy. Temperatures are expected to rise to around 18 degrees inland, in the southeast and on the east coast, around 17 degrees on the rest of the coast, and around 7 degrees in the higher mountains.

In the evening, the weather will remain mostly cloudy, with isolated showers and thunderstorms expected, particularly on the coast. Snow or sleet is expected on the higher peaks of the Troodos. Winds will mainly blow from the southeast to southwest, light and locally moderate, around 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough to choppy.

On Sunday, the weather will be mostly cloudy at times, with local showers and isolated thunderstorms expected. The higher peaks of the Troodos may experience snow or sleet. Temperatures are not expected to show any significant changes and will remain close to average climatic values.

On Monday, the clouds are expected to increase locally, producing isolated showers. Temperatures will gradually rise and be above the average climatic values for the season.

On Tuesday, the weather will be mainly clear, with occasional scattered clouds. The temperature will gradually rise above the seasonal average.
