Health ministry announces one death, 401 new cases

Cyprus hospitals are currently treating 125 patients, 26 of which are in critical condition

The health ministry announced one coronavirus fatality and 401 new cases on Wednesday, raising the death toll to 85 and total cases to 16,190.

The coronavirus fatality involved an 81-year-old man who suffered from underlying health conditions.

Cyprus hospitals are currently treating 125 patients, 26 of which are in critical condition.

66 patients are in the Famagusta general hospital, six of which are in the ICU. The Nicosia general hospital is also treating 29 patients, 14 of which are in the ICU where 12 are intubated. 29 more coronavirus patients are at the Limassol general hospital, while one more is at the Makario hospital in Nicosia.

Meanwhile, 12,358 tests conducted on Wednesday detected 401 new cases, of which 180 were people whose infection was confirmed after testing positive to a rapid test.

The remaining 111 were contacts, one was an arrival to a Cyprus airport, 89 were people who took the initiative to get tested, 18 were people who got tested at general hospitals, one person was tested either as part of special health groups or upon the referral of their GP, while another was a person tested in the framework of the program targeting the army camp of the Hellenic Force in Cyprus (Eldyk).
