A 67-year-old man has died after being struck by a runaway horse at the Agios Dometios Hippodrome in Nicosia, police said Thursday.
The accident happened Wednesday afternoon, shortly after 3:30 p.m., before the start of the first horse race. Authorities said the horse broke free from its groom and, while running loose, slammed into the man.
He was rushed to a private hospital and later transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where he died from his injuries just after 3 a.m. Thursday.
