A TikTok video that has been circulating in Cyprus has sparked widespread anger and calls for action after disability organizations accused those involved of humiliating a person with Down syndrome for entertainment.
The Cyprus Confederation of Disabled Persons’ Organizations (KYSOA) condemned the video, describing it as a “blatant violation of human dignity” and saying that such behavior has no place in society.
In a statement, KYSOA said the incident appears to involve the public humiliation of a person with a disability, adding that people with disabilities must be protected from exploitation and abuse, not turned into online content for likes and views.
The organization also raised concerns over the speed of the investigation, saying that those involved could potentially be identified through information available on social media platforms.
It called on authorities to act immediately, both to protect the person shown in the video and to ensure that anyone responsible is held accountable.
Police investigating
Police have already been informed of the case following a citizen’s complaint, while the Cybercrime Subdivision has taken over the investigation.
According to police information, initial findings suggest that the person appearing in the video may be a minor, raising even greater concerns over the seriousness of the incident.
The video has triggered strong reactions online, with many users demanding swift intervention from authorities and calling for those responsible to face consequences.
The case has also reignited a wider conversation in Cyprus about the responsibility of social media users and the dangers of filming vulnerable people for online attention.
