Police discovered dead wild birds and illegal hunting equipment in a fenced field in the Larnaca district during a morning search on Saturday. Authorities recovered seven dead birds along with eleven trapping nets, seven of which were still set up and ready for use.
Officials also found two devices designed to mimic the calls of wild birds, a method commonly used to lure them into traps. The Game and Fauna Service was called to the scene, where officers released 26 live birds that had been caught in the nets.
The field’s 30-year-old owner is expected to receive an out-of-court fine. Meanwhile, the Kofinou Regional Police continue to investigate the incident.
