UN special envoy Jane Holl Lute is reportedly on the move, with sources learning that she is expected to meet with President Nicos Anastasiasdes on July 23 during her tour to Nicosia, Athens, and Ankara.
Lute, following a meeting with Elizabeth Spehar in New York, will sound out all parties involved and offer her assessment to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on whether there is potential for the assumption of negotiations on the Cyprus problem.
Spehar, who is Deputy Special Adviser to Guterres, held separate meetings last week with Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, laying the groundwork for Lute’s visit to the island.
Lute is expected to arrive on Sunday, July 22, but no other meetings except the one with Anastasiades were immediately known.
Observers do not expect to see any developments over the summer or before the UN General Assmebly in September 2018.
