A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged attempt to set fire to a forested area near Kornos, with police expected to request his remand before the Larnaca District Court on Tuesday.
The case relates to an incident on Sunday evening when motorists travelling through the Kornos area spotted two people leaving the scene in a vehicle. At the same time, they saw flames in a nearby section of forest.
The motorists managed to put out the fire before it spread, preventing damage to the surrounding woodland.
During the investigation, police gathered evidence that led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for the 26-year-old. He was taken into custody on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a felony, attempted forest arson and other related offences.
The suspect is due to appear before the Larnaca District Court, where police will apply for a remand order while enquiries continue.
The investigation is being handled by the Kofinou Regional Police Station.
