Man dies in engine accident at Schiphol airport

Tragedy struck at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam on Wednesday when a man was killed after being trapped in a moving aircraft engine.

The incident occurred around noon on a KLM Embraer aircraft preparing to depart for Billund, Denmark. The aircraft had 190 passengers and crew on board.

The Royal Netherlands Military Police reported the accident on X, stating, "An incident occurred this afternoon on the Schiphol platform where a person fell into an aircraft engine in operation and died. All passengers and employees on that flight have been disembarked and are being cared for."

Schiphol Airport also expressed condolences on X, saying, "Our thoughts are with the relatives, and we care about the passengers and colleagues who witnessed this. The Royal Military Police are currently investigating."

KLM released a statement confirming that "the circumstances are being investigated."

Early reports did not clarify whether the victim was a passenger or an airport worker.

The Royal Netherlands Military Police stated that psychological support would be provided to the passengers who witnessed the incident, noting they are "important witnesses" to help understand the cause of the tragedy.
