Michalis Persianis is returning to where an important part of his journalism career began, joining Kathimerini Cyprus as Publishing Consultant at a time when the way people find, read and trust news is changing rapidly.
His new role will see him contribute to the wider publishing and digital strategy of both Kathimerini Cyprus and KNEWS, with a focus on strengthening content, developing new ideas and helping the two platforms navigate the opportunities and challenges facing modern journalism.
For Persianis, the move is also something of a homecoming.
He was part of the founding team that helped establish Kathimerini Cyprus and played a central role in developing its economic coverage. Starting as head of financial reporting and later moving into senior editorial positions, he helped shape the newspaper's identity and its approach to business, economic, and political journalism.
His career later took him beyond the newsroom and into some of the areas he had spent years reporting on.
He served as Director of Corporate Affairs at Bank of Cyprus before taking on the role of Chairman of the Fiscal Council of Cyprus from 2021 to 2026. During his five-year term, he became a prominent voice in discussions over government spending, public finances, economic reforms, and the long-term sustainability of the Cypriot economy.
He now returns to journalism with experience on both sides of the story, as a journalist examining institutions and as someone who has worked within the country's business and public-policy landscape.
As publishing consultants, Persianis will work on the strategic development of Kathimerini and KNEWS, including their journalistic and digital products, while contributing to new publishing initiatives and the continued development of high-quality, independent reporting.
His return comes during a period of enormous change for the media industry, as traditional journalism adapts to new technology, artificial intelligence, changing reader habits and a growing public demand for news it can trust.
