Monday has clouds on the mind and thunderstorms up its sleeve

Afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible, mainly in the mountains, inland areas and the north.

Cyprus is looking a little unsettled today, with clouds gathering, afternoon thunderstorms possible and temperatures finally starting to feel a little more autumn-friendly. At least the week has a few calmer moments in store, and Thursday is already looking much sunnier.

Today, cloud cover will increase at times, with isolated showers and thunderstorms expected during the afternoon, mainly in the mountains, inland areas and the north. So, if you're heading into the mountains later, perhaps don't trust that blue patch of sky too much. It might be keeping a little surprise to itself.

Winds will start off variable and light at force 3 Beaufort, gradually becoming southwesterly to northwesterly and light to moderate at force 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will remain calm to slightly rough.

As for temperatures, we're looking at around 30°C inland, 27°C along the coast and 18°C in the higher mountains. Still warm enough for short sleeves in most places, but the mountains are clearly starting to reach for their autumn wardrobe.

Tonight, the clouds aren't quite ready for bed. Increased cloud cover along the coast may bring isolated showers. Winds will turn northwesterly to northeasterly and remain light at force 3 Beaufort, while the sea will stay calm to slightly rough. All in all, a fairly quiet evening, provided those coastal clouds behave themselves.

Tuesday and Wednesday will bring spells of increased cloud cover, with isolated showers or thunderstorms possible during the afternoon, mainly in the mountains and inland areas. Apparently, the mountains have decided that afternoon showers are their new hobby. If you're planning a trip, it might be worth keeping an eye on the sky.

Thursday finally brings a little sunshine back into the picture. By Thursday, the weather will become mainly clear, although increased cloud cover will develop over the mountains.

Temperatures gradually creep up a little over the three-day period, remaining close to the average climatic values for this time of year.

So, Monday may be back with its usual attitude, but there's no need to lose hope just yet. Keep an eye on those afternoon clouds, enjoy the cooler mountain air and remember: the weekend may be over, but the sunshine hasn't handed in its resignation just yet.
