Motorists in Nicosia should plan ahead on Wednesday as several central streets will be closed for the city’s annual Military Parade.
The parade, scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Joseph X. Joseph Avenue in Strovolos, will trigger temporary road closures from early morning until late morning. Key arteries affected include sections of Joseph X. Joseph Avenue, Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue, Dimitris Vikelas Street, Pericleous Street, Stavrou Avenue, and parts of Athalassa Avenue. Closures will vary by street, with some starting as early as 4:15 a.m. and all reopening by 11 a.m.
Police are urging drivers leaving Nicosia to use the Nicosia-Limassol motorway or the perimeter road near Tseri, while those traveling within the area bounded by Athalassas, Iosif X’Iosif, Spyrou Kyprianou avenues, and the motorway should follow designated entry and exit points near the Olympic Stadium and Panagia Trachona church.
Officials remind drivers to obey on-duty police officers and note that drones will be banned over the parade route.
The road closures are expected to create delays in and around Strovolos, and authorities encourage residents and commuters to plan alternate routes ahead of the event.
